Hattiban Rock Climbing

Hattiban Rock Climbing is one of our favourite Rock climbing and we’d be delighted to help you explore this impressive spot in Nepal.

Rock climbing is a sport to climb up, down or across the rock formations/walls. The goal is to summit the endpoint pre-defined route without falling. Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, tests a climber's strength, endurance, agility, and balance along with mental control. Knowledge of proper climbing techniques and the use of specialized climbing equipment are crucial for the safe completion of routes. Due to the wide range and variety of rock formations around the world, rock climbing has been separated into several different styles and sub-disciplines.

Hattiban climbing offers an advanced level climb. The area is located 26km south-west of Kathmandu valley on the way to Dakshinkali temple, where we enjoy top-level grade climbing. Along the way, pass by Samye Monastery, and get a great view of the Kathmandu Valley. The climbing grades start from 5a to 6b. This place is very good in winter because it is south face and sunlight all day. We start hiking with a beautiful village under the lush pine forest and monasteries. Crossing village with short uphill walking around 30min gaining an elevation of around 2000ft we reach the spot named big crag.

A short private 1hr drive through the city and beautiful village brings us to Hattiban. Hattiban is a beautiful destination offering a great view of Kathmandu city. Then a short uphill walk around 25min through the jungle to the climbing ground named big crag. Cliff has 10 intermediate to advanced single-pitch climbing routes, all bolted for sport climbing with bolted anchors at the top of each route. The cliff is vertical, with slight overhangs. Hattiban Rock climbing is suitable for all sorts of climbers from beginners to experts.

Nepal Visas

Most nationalities require a visa for Nepal, which can be obtained in advance or on entry. If you wish to apply before departure the current visa cost is £20 for a 15 day visa and £35 for a 30 day visa for UK passport holders. The current cost of a visa on arrival is US$25 for 15 days, US$40 for 30 days or if extending your stay $100 for 90 days. All are multiple entry. The visa on arrival fee can be paid for in cash in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euros. You will also need a passport photo. Application forms are available in the immigration hall (or for electronic passports there are visa registration machines which, after inserting your passport, automatically fill out a form for you). You must firstly join the queue to pay the visa fee, and then go to the relevant immigration desk to obtain your 15, 30 or 90 day visa stamp. There can be long queues for visas on arrival.

Money and Gratuity

Gratuity is, Since the 1960s when rocket climbing in Nepal was developed, there has been a tradition for groups and independent visitors to graduate their crews at the end of a trek. Money and Gratuity; it is best to bring a mixture of cash, USD, GBP, CAD, EUR. Ensure you have also small denominations. As a guideline for baseline spending money we suggest USD 12 - 20 per meal in Kathmandu(if you drink or smoke or plan some major shopping this could be higher). You should exchange enough money into Nepalese Rupees to last the entire time of your trek BEFORE leaving Kathmandu. There are no exchange facilities in the place along the trail but plenty of money changers in KTM.
