What permits or visas do I need?

There are some steps to consider: Firstly, you need a valid Chinese visa (citizens of Brunei, Japan and Singapore are exempt). Remember your passport must be valid at least 6 months! All travelers fill in a customs and health declaration form on arrival in the country.

Foreigners also need a Tibet Travel Permit (also known as Tibet Visa) to be able to board a train or plane to Lhasa. For this, you need to pre-arrange an itinerary through a legal travel agency before arriving in Tibet. We at IHSA can help you arrange your permits and any paperwork necessary in a fast and efficient way, saving you time and effort. Please feel free to get in touch even if you only require some information, we are here to support you every step of your journey.

If you plan to enter Tibet from Nepal, besides all the Tibet Permits, you will have to travel with a Chinese Group Visa, which can only be obtained through the combined effort of travel agencies in Lhasa and Kathmandu. If you wish to obtain such a permit we will gladly assist with all the necessary paperwork and documentation. At IHSA, a Kathmandu based local agency we have years of experience and provide a worry-free Tibetan travel experience tailored to your needs. Get in touch today with one of our friendly agents to avoid the hassle, additional charges and time consuming bureaucracy.

In addition, if you are planning to travel outside Lhasa Prefecture you may be required to obtain further permits and there are some requirements to take into account.
